Understand the machine before ordering.

Heavy-duty clearance for ground a brushcutter can’t touch. The Chipperfield HCS870 is a self-propelled, walk-behind scythe-bar mower built for landowners, smallholders and grounds-care professionals who need to reclaim large areas of overgrown vegetation in a single pass.

Powered by a 196cc Loncin OHV four-stroke petrol engine, the HCS870 delivers the torque needed to drive its 87cm reciprocating cutter bar through dense grass, nettles, brambles and woody weeds. Overhead-valve technology keeps fuel consumption and emissions down, while the easy-pull recoil start gets you working in seconds.

The scissor-action cutter bar slices cleanly rather than mulching, so cuttings lie flat for easy collection or rotting down — the same principle traditional hay-cutting machinery has used for decades, scaled into a one-person walk-behind format. The cutting height adjusts from 30mm to 80mm, letting you tailor the finish from neat orchard floor to rough conservation clearance.

330mm tractor-tread pneumatic tyres give the HCS870 the grip and ground clearance to work confidently on slopes, hummocky pasture and uneven terrain that would stop a conventional rotary mower. A single forward gear and direct drive layout keep operation straightforward — engage the bar, set your line, walk it through.

Built for the work, backed for two years. Every Chipperfield machine ships with a 2-year manufacturer warranty and full UK parts and service support through MowDirect.
